Google Docs is an internet-based application that allows users to easily create, edit, and collaborate on documents. Regardless of whether you are working on an assignment in school, producing a report at your workplace, or are involved in a group project, Google Docs has a friendly interface and a lot of useful tools for editing and writing. Sometimes, you face problems in finding a solution to How to Delete a Page in Google Docs.
However, problems with Work are similar to those inherent to all word-processing tools in that users are confronted with small but important issues. One common problem is accidentally erasing unnecessary or additional pages in Google Docs. There are times when it is irritating to have a blank or unneeded page within a document, whether the formatting is distorted or the overall look of the paper ruined.
Anyway, it becomes easy to delete an extra page when one understands some of the techniques used in doing so. Let me explain how to delete a page in Google Docs using several simple methods so that you can handle such situations.
Table of Contents
Often, an unwanted extra page can push itself into the middle or to the end of your document due to the tiny superfluous text inserted there. Here’s how to delete them:
Go to the last part of your document and look at it, and you will see that it has an awkward blank page or multiple pages. Right-click and select remove format or delete on the mouse pointer wherever you find additional blank spaces or lines that seem to be constructing a page.
After you have selected the additional spaces that you want to remove, click the “Delete” key on your keyboard – or “Backspace” if you are using a Mac computer. This should immediately strip the extra spaces and, therefore, should delete the extra page as well.
One thing that might be wrong is that the format of the keys “Delete” or “Backspace” is inconsistent. Another approach can be found by going to the “Format” tab, clicking the “Line spacing” option, and selecting the option that excludes inserting space after a paragraph. This will also assist in avoiding situations whereby there is an extra page as a result of some hidden format.
Another common reason for extra pages in Google Docs is with the addition of the page breaks throughout the document. As it was mentioned before, page breaks are quite effective tools for dividing content, but that might lead to the appearance of an extra blank page. If this is the case, follow these steps:
Go through your document and physically locate the page break. Most of the time, page breaks will cause a large space between two sections of the document.
After finding the location of a page break, click on this position and highlight the entire page break.
With the page break highlighted, a single left-click of the mouse or pressing the “Delete” or “Backspace” keys. Expecting this should remove the page break forthwith, and the extra page should not appear as well.
If bringing the line breaks or deleting the page breaks was not helpful, then you might have a problem with your margins set on the document. At other times, large bottom margins may put too much text at the bottom of the page, even if it is not actually needed. Here’s how to fix that:
At the very first column of the toolbar on the Google Docs interface, you click on the “File” button. From the drop-down menu, go to “Page setup.”
Once again, the settings that you can choose in “Page setup” will tell you how to change the margins of the document. Look at the margins, especially the bottom margin, because here, usually writers indicate the type of format applied. If it looks too big, attempt to decrease the value you have entered in the box to that you are inputting the number. Decreasing the bottom margin can also easily retrieve the materials back to the previous page and save an additional page.
After changing the margins, click ok to check the settings that have been made. This should help to remove or at least minimize the additional page if it has been created because of such problems as margins.
Section breaks are the other elements that are unique and presumably can lead to the creation of additional pages involuntarily. Section breaks are used when you wish to format the different segments of the document in different ways, but if not controlled, they create unwanted blank pages. Here’s how to delete them:
To get rid of this, go through your document to find the part where you set a section break that leads to an additional page. Sections of the writing are often separated by a clear space between them or a blank line or two.
Sit on the bar line just before the section break and click. This will enable you to either tag or bookmark the section break.
Once you have placed your cursor on the desired section, you can delete the section break by either hitting the Delete key or the Backspace key. This should combine the sections and eliminate unwanted page breaks or additional pages.
Sometimes, one more page can be inserted due to hidden items that are not seen when the document is opened in standard mode. Switching to “Print layout” can help identify these hidden elements:
At the extreme left of the Google Docs interface, place your cursor over the “View” tab. In the list, choose the option that says “Print layout.”
To read the extra page, scroll through the document from the print layout view. On some occasions, one is able to note areas in the document that have formatting problems when reading it in this format.
Once you have identified the problem, use one of the earlier-mentioned methods to delete the extra page.
One of the frequently reported and easily resolved problems is how to delete an unwanted page in Google Docs. Knowing the causes of additional line breaks, manual page breaks, or unusual formatting allows one to easily work through additional pages that interfere with the document flow. Take the above steps to rectify it and ensure that your paper looks the best it can before you submit it.
